I love my job because my nephews are little and they sleep a lot. I have time to watch TV or do my home work. Baby-sitting is a good job.

I'm Omar Bolatuly. I'm 15. I'm a newspaper boy. I deliver newspaper round every day of the

week. It takes me an hour. I have to get up at 7:30 every day. The newsagent pays 350 tenge a day and

450 tenge on Sundays, so I earn 2,550 tenge a week. I like my job, but carrying newspapers is difficult!

I'm Dmitry Sergeev. I'm 16.1 just work one morn­ing — on Saturday mornings from 8 till 12 o'clock. I'm a waiter in a snack bar.

My job is exciting. I meet a lot of kids of my age there. They have ice cream. I earn 400 tenge for a morning work-hour. My customers are very friendly

His family lived in London. His father was a clerk in an office. It was a good job, but he always spent more money than he earned and he was often in debt. There were eight children in the family,

so life was hard.

Charles went to school and his teachers thought he was very clever. But suddenly, when he was only eleven, his father went to prison for his debts and the family went, too. Only Charles didn't go to prison. He went to work in a factory, where he washed bottles. He worked ten hours a day and earned six shillings (30 p) a week. Every night, after work, he walked four miles back to his room. Charles hated it and never forgot the experience. He used it in many novels, especially David Copperfield and Oliver Twist.

DICKENS THE WRITER

When he was sixteen, he started work for a newspaper. He visited law courts and the Houses of Parliament. Soon he was one of the Morning Chronicle's best journalists. He also wrote short stories for magazines.

WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE

"To be or not to be — that is the question". Those words come from "Hamlet", a play that William Shakespeare wrote in 1603. Shakespeare is the most famous British playwright in history. Peo­ple know his name in almost every country in the world. But who exactly was William Shakespeare? That is the question!

Shakespeare was born in Stratford-upon-Avon on 23 April, 1564. Families were big in those days. William had seven brothers and

sisters.

But his parents weren't poor; his father, John Shakespeare, was a successful businessman who bought and sold leather and wool. His mother was the daughter of a rich farmer.

He learnt Latin and studied the literature of Ancient Rome. But he was probably more interested in the groups of actors who traveled from town to town and put on plays in schools, churches, halls and public houses. These plays were very popular and William probably went to see them after school.

When Shakespeare left school, he went to work for his father. But soon after, he met and fell in love with Ann Hathaway, the daughter of a farmer. They got married in December 1582, and just five months later, their first daughter, Susanna, was born. William was 18. Ann was 25.

What did Shakespeare do for the next ten years? We don't know exactly. We don't know why he gave up a good job in his lather's business and moved to London. We don't know exactly when or why he became an actor and playwright. All we know is that in 1592 he wrote his first play. After that, his plays became popular very quickly, and he made a lot of money.

My ideal school would be in the centre of the city, but near a big park so that students could go there after lunch to relax. There would also be a coffee bar where we could get together during breaks. My school would also have computers in all classrooms.

Another thing would be a music studio where we could play and record music.



Students would study all the usual subjects such as maths, sci­ence and foreign languages. However, there would be some new optional subjects, for example, driving lessons, cookery, or self-defence. In addition, all students would have some free lessons in order to do private study or homework.

As well as the subjects on the timetable, there would be many after-school clubs, such as chess, drama, photography and sports. There would be regular trips to places like museums and art galler­ies too. To sum up, I think my school would have a good variety of activities - something for everyone. It's certainly a place I would like to go to!

London Sightseeing Tour

London is the capital of the UK. There are a lot of interesting places to see in London. For example: Trafalgar Square. There is a statue of Admiral Nel­son who defeated the French at the Battle of Trafal­gar in 1805. He is a national English hero. There is no traffic in the square.

Buckingham Palace is the London home of the Queen. When the flag is on the top she is at home. Here you can see changing the guard. It happens every day at 11.30 a. m.

House of Parliament is the seat of the British Government. It's a very large building with beautiful towers. Big Ben is one of the most famous clocks in the world. It was named after Sir Benjamin Hall. The clock was made under his direction.

Westminster Abbey is a Royal Church. Here you can see many tombs of British Kings and Queens and other famous people, such as: Charles Dickens, Walter Scott, and Thomas Hardy.

Tower of London was a fortress, a royal palace, later a prison. Now it is a museum. Many tourists come to visit London and see all these places.
