Theme of the lesson: Animals

The aims:

1). To form pupils` abilities in oral speech, reading and understanding English.

2). To enrich pupils` active vocabulary by learning new words on the theme “Animals”.

3). To bring up the feeling of love towards animals, birds and nature.



Visual aids: presentation, pictures, handouts

The procedure of the lesson

  1. Organizational moment (2 min)

  • Greeting and wishes

Pupils:

  • Good morning, good morning!

Teacher:

  • Good morning, good morning!

  • I’m glad to see you!

  • Pupils wish each other happy, good luck, health, be successful, never be sad, always smile.

Children, look at the screen. Here you can see a pictures . What is the theme of our lesson? Yes, you are right! The theme of our lesson is “Animals”.

  • (3 min)

Today in our lesson we will:

  • repeat the words

  • answer the questions

  • work in groups

  • talk about animals

Pupils, answer what animals you know. (The pupils answer). You know a lot of animals. Perhaps you know some poems about them?


  1. Phonetic drill. ( 2 min)

- Repeat after me all together

My doggy is funny,

My doggy is small.

It likes to hop,

To run, to roll.
2. I love my cat

It is warm and fat.

My cat is grey,

It likes to play.




  1. Warm-up. (3 min)

Dear children, please answer my questions

  • How do you think what is my favorite animal? It is a dog

  • And what is your favorite animal?

  • What are the 2 types of animals?

  • What domestic animals do you know?

  • What wild animals do you know?


IV The main part

Task 1. The first task is Matching. You should match the pictures and parts of animals. You will work in pairs. ( 5 min)

( tail, legs, horns, beak, ears, eyes, feather, wings)



  • Let’s check the answers. Good job!

  • Who doesn’t have any mistakes? Excellent! Who have one or more mistakes? Good job!

Task 2. Pupils, the next task is solving puzzles. Now you will work in 3 groups. (8 min)

1. Pets

2. Wild animals

3. Domestic animals

- I will give you puzzles of animals you should solve it and speak about this animal

1 group – tiger

2 group – dog

3 group – panther

Plan of the speaking: 1 Say the name of animal

2 Say the colour of this animal

3 Say what it can do

4 Say what it can’t do




Task 3. The next task is “Guess the animal” (6 min)

  • I will give you paper with tasks. Let’s guess an animal by diagram

Task 4. Reading

  • The next task is reading and making a poster. You will work in groups. (5 min)

1 group “Pets”

A lot of people keep animals at home for pleasure. They are called pets. People usually prefer small animals like rabbits and birds. But the most popular pets are dogs and cats. Some dogs guard and protect their owner’s houses. Cats can help people, too. They catch mice and rats. Sometimes people keep exotic animals: iguanas, snakes, frogs, small crocodiles and even tigers.


2 group “ Wild animals”

Wild animals are animals which don’t live near people. They hunt small animals. They are very dangerous. Wild animals are strong. They are beautiful. They live in different places.

The animals which live in savanna: lions, zebras, giraffes and elephants. The animals which live in the rainforest and tropics are tigers, parrots, monkeys.


3 group “ Domestic animals

Domestic animals are animals which live near people on a farm. They eat grass, fruit and vegetables. They are very useful. People can’t live without animals.

Some domestic animals work for people. Some of them give people food. Horses give meat. Cows and goats give milk. Hens, ducks, geese, turkeys give meat and eggs.


  • Dear pupils, present your posters.

  • Good job! Learners, let’s evaluate each other. Please, pupils of the 2nd and 3rd group evaluate the work of the 1st group

  • The second group if you like their work and everything was correct lift your thumbs up

  • The 3rd group if you like the first group’s work show green signal card, if it is was incorrect show red signal card
