RESEARCH ON CO 2 ABSORPTION USING HUMIC SUBSTANCES Kozhamuratova U.M., Kazankapova M.K., Yermagambet B.T., Kasenova Zh.M. Institute of Coal Chemistry and Technology LLP kozhamuratova.u@mail.ru, maira_1986@mail.ru, bake.yer@mail.ru, zhanar_k_68@mail.ru
The basis of the work was the study of the absorption of CO
2
by humic acid salts. Humic acid
salts are produced by the Institute of Coal Chemistry and Technology LLP.
In this publication, the absorption of pollutants by humic substances deserves special
attention. GW are natural polyelectrolytes that have an aromatic base, strongly replaced by
functional groups. In nature, humic coatings attached to the surface of mineral particles provide a
higher sorption capacity of soils and sediments in relation to organic chemicals.
Carbon capture reduces CO
2
emissions from fossil fuel power plants, taking into account
current and future energy needs. Humic substances can reduce up to 90% of carbon dioxide
emissions.
Carbon capture methods are proposed to reduce CO
2
emissions. Of the many methods of CO
2
capture, the chemical absorption method using amines is the most technologically advanced. The
attempt to use other solutions (called solvents) for absorption has been the subject of many
scientific studies. Studies conducted by the Institute of Coal Chemistry and Technology LLP have
shown that humic acid salts demonstrate a fairly good absorption of CO
2
. It should be noted that
there is very little data in the open literature on the absorption of CO
2
by humic acid salts.
During these studies, aqueous solutions of potassium humate (50%) were tested as CO
2
sinks.
To this end, laboratory experiments were conducted in which salts were saturated with a
CO
2
/nitrogen gas mixture at 23°C.
The CO
2
absorption capacity of the studied humic salts was in the range of 30,703 g of
CO
2
/kg of solvent.
The advantage of using humic salts is that the solution after absorption of CO
2
can be widely
used in agriculture as an organo-mineral fertilizer saturated with K
2
CO
3
. In addition, it is harmless
and non-toxic. Therefore, it can probably be considered a green solvent. The reagent is an organic
humic liquid product extracted from coal, which has been shown to be able to remove greenhouse
gases to high levels.
The results of this adsorption study require further studies on CO
2
removal.
