Digitization of the health sector in Pakistan

Actuality: 
The spread of coronavirus infection has become a challenge for health systems 
around the world. Physicians are faced with an unprecedented workload, and digital solutions that 
can alleviate it are more relevant than ever.
Objective: 
Social and mobile media are playing a significant role in the digitization of 
health sectors globally. New technology provides an opportunity for stakeholders (i.e., patients 
and healthcare professionals) to engage with each other in virtual environments to discuss health
-
related issues. This study examines the role of social and mobile media in digitizing the health 
sector in Pakistan through Marham, the platform that is the subject of this case study. 
Methods: 
A thematic content analysis of Marham’s social media (Facebook group, 
Facebook page, and Twitter account) and
mobile media application (“app” and website) were 
chosen for sampling. Some 6083
-
group posts, 1724 tweets and 1123 Facebook posts populated 
our sample.
Marham is a community on Facebook by which people can have online consultations and 
can find doctors who can cure diseases from which people are suffering. Marham was established 
as a private initiative to digitize and facilitate the health industry of Pakistan. Especially in this 
pandemic situation when there is a lockdown in whole country and there were patients who 
cannot go to hospitals for consultation due to fear of Covid-19 were able to consult to their doctor 
it is a great platform for patients within Pakistan.
The forum has all kinds of expert doctors in 
various fields of medicine just a touch aw
ay. Health care has never been like this in Pakistan.
For 
consultation you can log in to your Facebook account after that you have to join the community of
Marham after that you have to go through the survey and confirm the symptoms and diseases you 
think you are suffering from after that Marham will provide you with the best doctors of your city.
