As the first video plays, the students will find how the elements from group one react with water.The video has a person talking in slow English and it has a good vision of all the reactions in group one so it covers a big range of different learners. After students have seen the video the teacher will ask the question: What things are similar in group I? Students will be given some time to think about the answer and after that,the first box will be removed so they can check what they have wrote in their own tables. The same is done with the differences and the other videos will be watched. To find these videos please go to appendix and find the power point presentation number one.On the last slide you will find the links for the videos. At the end of the activity some vocabulary will be reinforced, as the teacher will use flash cards and full table from the activity.
In the fourth activity both teachers will use a power point presentation and will explain different trends is periodthree. The first teacher will explain that trends in the boiling points of the elements in period three had been split in metals, non-metals and noble gas, so students can understand the trends in the period. The second teacher will explain atomic radius and the first teacher will explain ionization energy.At the end of the presentation a slide in Kazakhwill be shown, where the local teacher will do a small summary followed bysome questions from both teachers in both languages.
The fifth activity will reinforce the knowledge acquired in the class.Each student will solve cross wordsand, after five minutes, the words and their meaning will be checked using the smart board.
The last activity that will be performed by the students is a self-evaluation.Students will be given the following format and they are free to write in any of the three languages.
