1.3.2 Mechatronic motion modules
Mechatronic motion module (MMМ) is a constructively and functionally
independent product, including mechanical, electrical (electronical) and infor-
mation parts that can be used individually and in various combinations with
other modules.
In connection with the development of new electronic technologies that
allowed the creation of miniature sensors and electronic units for processing
their signals, electronic and information devices appeared in the mechatronic
motion modules, which is their main distinguishing feature from the motion
modules.
To create modern technological machines intended for automated machine
building, a variety of mechatronic motion modules are needed that meet a
number of requirements: high accuracy in implementing executive movements,
reliability, durability, workability in the presence of various types of distur-
bances and a wide range of ambient temperatures, mass-size indicators in
comparison with the usual electric drive.
Requirements for the development of efforts, accuracy and speed of execu-
tive movements are dictated by the features of the automated technological
operation, and the requirement to minimize the dimensions of the mechatronic
module of motion is the need to integrate it into the technological machine. An
attempt to synthesize a mechatronic module of motion from existing commer-
cially available components can lead to technically and economically inefficient
solutions.
Therefore, it is more rational to design a specialized mechatronic module of
motion that most fully meets its official purpose. The complexity and inconsis-
tency of the requirements imposed on mechatronic modules of motion, makes it
expedient to mechatron approach to their design.
In particular, following the principle of synergistic integration of the
elements of the system leads to the achievement of the desired level of the
module’s quality due to the constructive and functional interpenetration of its
components, many of which are specialized and are created during parallel
system design, taking into account their subsequent effective integration [9].
If the requirement to ensure the compactness of the mechatronic module
of motion is predominant, then it can be realized by using contactless electric

machines and information measuring elements. In this case, the motion
transducers and sensors are not separate devices, but become integral elements
of the engine.
The synergetic effect is also achieved by performing several functions
of the mechatronic modulus of motion of several functions simultaneously.
Such solutions allow eliminating many mechanical interfaces, simplifying
and reducing the cost of construction, eliminating the need for mechanical
adjustment and matching of the sensor and the motor.
Mechatronic motion modules are functional «cubes» from which complex
mechatronic systems can be arranged. Examples of mechatronic motion
modu-
les:
mechatronic motion modules based on electric motors of angular and linear
motion and various motion transducers (helical, worm, planetary, wave, etc.),
gearless mechatronic motion modules, gearless rotary tables.

is presented the scheme of the mechatronic module of motion,
developed in the Central Research Institute of Automation and Hydraulics and
at MSTU «STANKIN» [2].

The module consists of a three-phase contactless electric motor, a ball screw
drive transducer, an inductive position sensor (IPS) and guides. The rotor 6 of
the electric motor is connected to the nut 2 of the ball screw drive transducer
mounted on the bearings 3 in the housing 4. The currents flowing through the
phase windings 7 of the stator 5 lead to the appearance of an electromagnetic

torque of the motor causing rotation of the nut 2. The screw 1 then linearly
moves along the guides 8 To measure the movement of screw 1, an inductive
position sensor 9 is used. The screw 1 plays the role of its movable element.
The fixed part 9 is fixed in the housing 4 of the mechatronic module and is
