Results.
Impaired vaccination status was registered in 15.7% of children of the
first year of life, 4.9% of them were not fully vaccinated while 10.8% of them were
partially vaccinated. Most often, children were not vaccinated against pneumococcal

infection (31.5%), diphtheria (29.2%) and hemophilic infection (27.2%), and less
often - against rubella (8.5%) and tuberculosis (11.2 %). Medical reasons for non-
vaccination were the main reason for refusing vaccination in 89.8% of partially
vaccinated children and 82.5% of totally unvaccinated children. Among the
subjective reasons for the complete and partial refusal from vaccination the majority
of mothers mentioned fear of post-vaccination complications (66.7% of full and
69.7% of partial refusals) and belief that there is no risk of acquiring an infectious
disease (64.1% and 81.3%, respectively). In the obstetric hospital, 20.7% of
newborns were not vaccinated against hepatitis B and 16.1% - against tuberculosis.
24.4% of refusals against hepatitis B and 22.2% of refusals against tuberculosis were
due to the parents' prejudice against vaccination.
Young women aged 15-19 less often refused vaccination of their children
compared to mothers from other age groups. 22.7% of mothers with children fully
vaccinated according to the National Vaccination Calendar, had doubts about
usefulness of vaccination. 91.1% of mothers in the study indicated the Internet as one
of the main sources of information about vaccination. The share of respondents
receiving information from medical workers equaled to 31.4% only.
Conclusions.
The main reason for refusal or break of the vaccination timetable
in children of the first year is medical reasons related to the children's health. Parental
refusals from vaccination of infants for subjective reasons are most often associated
with fear of complications in the post-vaccination period and confidence that there is
no risk of acquiring an infectious disease. Insufficient health information of parents
by health professionals results in misunderstanding of the importance of vaccination
from childhood infections leading to preventable refusals and doubts about usefulness
of vaccination.
