Cultivation area. In 2007 the variety entered the State register of breeding
achievements eligible for use in the North Caucasus and the Nizhnevolzhsky regions.
Breeding method. The variety was bred with the use of singleplant selection from
the hybrid population VNIIR 1063/Modul.
The variety belongs to the mid-ripening group. Growing season is 115–118 days.
Botanical and morphological characteristics. Botanical variety: var.
italica Alef.
Glumes are straw-coloured, awnless. Plant height is 90–100 cm. The stem is of av-
erage thickness, firm. Panicle is 15–17 cm long, dense, slightly drooping, containing
8–10 spikelets per 1 cm.
Grain and milled rice quality, cooking properties. 1000 grain weight at stan-
dard moisture content: 28–29 g. Milled rice is white with a translucency of 92–98 %;
husk-covered grain ratio (
l/b ): 2.1–2.3; total milled rice: 69–70 %; head rice: 95–98 %.
Protein content: 7.0–7.8 %; amylose content: 19.0–20.0 %. The characteristic of va-
riety is a stability of grain and milled rice qualities irrespectively of vegetation season.
