The variety is recommended for cultivation in the North Cau-
casus region.
Breeding method.
The variety was bred with the use of hybridization methodwith
the following multiple single plant selection with the use of anther culture from the
hybrid combination VNIIR 8444/VNIIR 87.
Botanical and morphological characteristics.
Sonet belongs tothe mid-rip-
ening group. Growing season lasts 109–115 days. The variety is awnless, belongs
to
japonica
subspecies. Botanical variety:

Alef. Glumes are straw-colored,
smooth or slightly hirsute. Plant height is 80–85 cm. Plants are tolerant to lodging.
Leaves are green, medium-sized, with an arrangement which allows absorbing solar
radiation optimally. Flag leaf is erect, situated under panicle; together with the ripening
of grains it becomes white. Panicle is 14.5–15.0 cm long, erect, slightly sprawling,
contains 180–190 spikelets with the density of 10–13 spikelets per 1 cm. Spikelet
sterility: 15–20 %.Panicle pedicle is firmly fixed in leaf sheath; some panicles are
