Annotation
Out of 12.903 million hectares of forested territory of Kazakhstan, the share of Haloxylon
forests is 6.32 million hectares or 49%. The moratorium on Haloxylon, introduced in 2008, turned
out to be timely, and it was possible to stop the illegal cutting of this valuable plant. In 2019, the
moratorium on all types of logging in Haloxylon forests was extended for another 10 years. The
main role of Haloxylon forests is sand fixing, forage for wild animals, grazing land for domestic
animals, habitat for many species of wild animals and birds. Currently, work is underway on the
creation of Haloxylon forest crops. Against this background, the natural renewal of Haloxylon is
also relevant.
