Students listened to the two-minutes authentic recording from the BBC collection and did 
the task which was identifying the overall content. They listened to the same recording but with 
one big purpose divided into several small objectives. 
This stage was conducted as following: 
a)
Listen to the recording to find all the proper names; 
b)
Listen to the recording to find all the numbers; 
c)
Listen to the recording to find all the key words needed to better understand the content 
of listening. 
d)
Listen to the recording to do the initial task with identifying people’s opinions about a 
certain phenomenon or situation. 
2.
Say who…
Again, the recording last two minutes. It was the audio taken from Radio 
Program in England of 1960s. People were discussing unusual situations that have ever 
happened to them. The task for students was to identify each speaker to the situation. The task 
was divided into several small objectives: 
a)
Listen and underline the names you hear. 
b)
Listen and find key words connected to each speaker from the list. 
c)
Listen and match speakers to the situations. 
3.
Write the numbers
. Students were to find as many numbers as they can in the audio. 
Small objectives for that were: 
a)
Listen and count how many times you hear numbers in the audio. 
b)
Listen and write down all simple numbers you hear. 
c)
Listen and tick all the complex numbers you hear. 
4.
Find the jobs.
The task was to listen to the audio material and identify speakers’ 
occupations. To do that students were suggested to: 
a)
Listen to the recording and underline words from the list, then explain what they are 
(different professions). 
b)
Write the words and expressions they know which are connected with these professions. 
c)
Listen to the recording and identify speakers’ professions. 
5.
 Identify family members
. This audio was a piece of TV show where a teenager spoke 
about his family. He told about his family members’ preferences in food. The task for students 
was to identify each family member who liked or disliked certain products. Tasks for them: 
a)
To listen to the recording and find food names. 
b)
To listen and identify all the family members they hear. 
c)
To listen and match family members with their preferences in food. 
Results 
While conducting the experiment we counted the number of students who coped with the 
task and then calculated this number in per cents in relation to the whole group (see Chart 1).
