What has CHI achieved since its inception in September 2003?
The expansion of the network: At its inception in 2003, CHI was a network of 54 countries. Since then, the network has grown to include 71 countries with a total of 81 child helplines. These helplines have met regionally and internationally in 2004 and 2005, creating a true movement of helplines with inputs to positively impact the lives of children on a national, regional and international level. In 2004/5 CHI partnered with the government, NGOs and other key stakeholders in Brazil, Colombia, Egypt, Mongolia, Nigeria, Panama, Serbia/Montenegro, Uganda and Vietnam to start helplines.
Scaling-up: CHI is also working towards the expansion of helplines presently working on a district level. Albania, Pakistan, and Thailand will in the near future be operating nationally, reaching out to many more children in need of care and protection. Philippines has recently expanded nationally.
