Annotation. The article considers the need to know the system of physical education as a social system and a social
phenomenon, the main laws of its formation and development, its functions and structures necessary to ensure physical
education of the younger generation in accordance with the requirements of education and upbringing. Given the fact that
physical education is not only school sports lesson, but also a system of measures related to health in extracurricular, non-formal
education, the system of physical education in educational institutions at the present stage suggests that along with improving
the health of young people, full development of the bio-psychological needs of the individual, development of the active position
and a humane attitude to life. This important method is directly related to the system of education in higher education institutions,
which plays a leading role as a scientific and educational discipline, trains future teachers of professional direction in the field
of physical education.
