Arterial Hypertension and Pregnancy: Diagnosis, Treatment, and Prognosis

Arterial hypertension in pregnant women is classified into 4 categories: chronic hypertension, gestational hyperten-
sion, preeclampsia, and unclassified hypertension. The disorder increases the risk of complications for both mother
and fetus. Pharmacotherapy of arterial hypertension in pregnant women should be effective and safe. Methyldopa
is the first-line antihypertensive drug for pregnant women. Calcium channel blockers and
β
-blockers are also used
with success. Arterial hypertension during pregnancy is the risk factor of cardiovascular diseases.
