Strategies for Teaching Vocabulary: Theory and Technique


The theory and techniques for teaching vocabulary may not be as fun as the ideas that I’ll share in the next post or as perusing the books in the last post, yet this is the theory applicable to all ages and types of readers. It is the knowledge that will enable you to choose the right activities and strategies for your content and grade level.






PURPOSES FOR TEACHING VOCABULAR


Some examples of lexical games that you can use in the lesson:
1. Memory game (Games for the development of visual memory and knowledge of vocabulary)

Words or phrases are placed on the board that need to be consolidated. The teacher asks the students to turn away or close their eyes and erases one of the LUs. Pupils should guess which word or phrase is missing and how to write it down correctly on the chalkboard.
