competitiveness and visibility of an educational institution, it is
necessary to focus on the educational and industrial areas of work to
improve the university.
In this article, we propose to consider improving the sustainability
of the business model and strengthening (creating) competitiveness in
the educational market – picture 1:

The article Radical Survival Strategies for Struggling Colleges,
published in the New York Times in October 2019, off ers examples
of dozen strategic decisions of American colleges. We also provide
similar case studies’ examples of Kazakhstani universities. Finally, we
believe that strategic decisions from the business world for companies
can be valid for private universities, given the vision of the plan 100
concrete steps to gradually expand the academic and managerial
independence of universities and transform private universities into
non-profi t organizations in accordance with international practice.
The pool of solutions for private Kazakh universities that have
worked in foreign universities, as well as local cases, we divide into 4
above-mentioned areas.
1. Strategic solutions. To stand out from the competition, you need
to be diff erent from others, change the existing business model, and
establish new partnerships for development. Competitors regularly
innovate, and new entrants make the market even more diverse. For
example, in 2018, the Astana International University was opened in
Nur-Sultan. Its opening was justifi ed by the need to expand aff ordable
quality education for the growing number of applicants in the capital
and the need to attract new international partner universities. An
educational institution must innovate so often and in such a way that
