We live in an information society and computers are present in our lives, in every area of our activity. Computers today are much more than just electronic computers. Information resources on the Internet are used in the learning process; barcode scanners in the supermarket read the value of the product and calculate our bank account; computerized call centers monitor and distribute many calls every day around the world; ATMs allow us to conduct banking transactions, etc. But where did all these technologies come from? To fully understand and appreciate the value of the computer in our life and its prospects, it is important to understand the evolution of its development. Ancient man used fingers, shells, beads, sticks, and other objects to represent numbers and calculate sums and differences. Today it is difficult to realize that our ancestors used small stones and other objects as numbers. Such computational methods introduced some rudimentary kind of abstraction and people began to realize that such a method did not meet their increasing needs.
Years pass … The history of the computer is closely connected with human attempts to facilitate the automation of large amounts of information, including knowledge. The computers that we see around us belong to the technologies of the modern generation, which differ sharply from the machines of previous generations, primarily in that their organization largely meets the ideas of creating artificial intelligence, that is, these machines are «thinking». They are being introduced into many areas of computer networks, including educational institutions. The latest information revolution brings to the fore a new industry – the information industry associated with the production of technical means, methods, technologies for the production of new knowledge bases to improve the quality of education. Information technologies for data transmission based on computer networks with the use of Internet resources are becoming the most important components.
