2.1.2 Auxiliary Verb Verbs classified into 2 categories as well as in English: main and auxiliary. The main verb
is composed of one root expressing an action, while auxiliary verb involves a semantic usage
other than the basic dictionary meaning when combined syntactically with a main verb.
Auxiliaries can be used in modal or inchoative meaning when combined with a main verb
ending -а/-й/-ып (i.e. suffixes of a special forms of the verb) [этиштин өзгөчө формаларынын
мүчөсү]. Auxiliaries include болуу ‘to be’, берүү ‘to give’, туруу ‘to stand’. For example, сала
берүү ‘to keep putting’, сүйлөй берүү ‘to keep talking’, отура тур ‘sit awhile’. Auxiliary verbs
used in compounding are divided into two classes, according to the Slavic grammatical model
applied to Qazaq in Balaqaev, Baskakov, and Kengesbaev (1962:276), into perfective: (чыгуу
‘to exit’, коюу ‘to put’, таштоо ‘to throw’, жиберүү ‘to send’, кетүү ‘to leave’, келүү ‘to

come’) and imperfective action. (отуруу ‘to sit’, жатуу ‘to lie’, жүрүү ‘to go around’, туруу ‘to
stand’).
