The Kazakh Academy of Transport and Communications was set up in 1996 as the result of the merger of two transport universities – the Almaty Railway Transport University and the Almaty Road Transport University. The five – year period of studies at our Academy is divided into two parts: two years of general study and three years of professional training. The first and second year students study the following subjects: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Descriptive Geometry, Strength of Materials, Foreign languages. Specialization begins in the third year. The study of theory is followed by professional training, and the fourth year students have their pre – diploma industrial practice at railway enterprises, deport and so on. KazATC has two buildings. One of the buildings is situated on Masanchi – Shevchenko streets. It is in the centre of the city. The second is situated on Raimbek – Naurizbay batir streets. Teaching staff is highly qualified, 160 professions hold Ph.D. degrees among leading Universities of RK. Kaz ATC enrolment exceeds 15 000 students, including 750 graduate students. There are 3 faculties and over 20 departments at the Academy. The faculties are: - organization of transportation - transport technology - construction - automatization and telecommunication - general education. Our Academy provides its students with everything, necessary for study and recreation: there is a solid laboratory base, light lecture rooms, up-to-date laboratories, a big library with a rich collection of manuals and scientific literature. two reading rooms. There is a recreation hall sitting 600 people, computer classes, with the Internet access, language laboratories, a printing house, musical and sport clubs etc. Kaz ATC has training and research centers in Astana, Aktobe, Shimkent. KazATC maintains close relations with many higher educational institutions and scientific production centers both in our country and abroad. All non-local students are provided with hostels.
