Doctor of Historical Sciences Janibek Khan Abstract. The author of the article considers the role and place of a historical figure in the history of the Kazakhs, one of the founders of the Kazakh Khanate - Janibek Khan. Based on the data of medieval written sources, on oral folklore and historiographical materials, the author dwells on the origin and ancestors of Janibek Khan, and proves that he comes from the eldest son of Khan Jochi - Orda Ichen. Reveals the leading role of Janibek Khan in the creation of the Kazakh Khanate together with Kerey Khan. The author also argues based on the actual written sources that Janybek Khan, was the one who, after Kerey Khan completed the formation of the Khanate. The author also criticizes some historiographical conclusions regarding Janibek Khan and offers his own judgments.
