Suleimenov Institute of Oriental Studies, Almaty, Kazakhstan THE IDEAS OF MODERNIZATION AND ENLIGHTMENT OF IBRAGIM ALTYNSARIN Abstract This work is devoted to I.Altynsarin's ideas on the education and enlightenment of the Kazakh people, on the basis of his works, historical materials, his articles in Orenburgkii Listok‖, let ters, and memories about him Actual in this analysis is the hypothesis that Altynsarin, as a modernization phenomenon, confirms the dichotomic principle of Spencer's modernization scheme, as it is in the marginal position of confrontation and adaptation both in relation to Russian and Kazakh civilization. On this basis, I focus on materials that highlight the dynamics of the frontier view of the enlightener, as well as the subsequent modernization results and their historical significance.
