PRISON EXTREMISM: MODERN VECTOR
OF DEVELOPMENT OF SCIENTIFIC THOUGHT
IN HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES
Abstract: the aim of the article is to study the problems of analysis of counteraction to extremism in the
institutions executing criminal penalties of imprisonment. The author gives a generalized description of the
main directions of development of the modern theory and practice to counter extremism in prisons. Based
on the content analysis of studies on the radicalization in prisons, as well as the publication activity of
Russian and foreign scientists and experts, proposed periodization main stages of the development of
scientific research in this field. Researchers agree that in the present conditions the most important areas of
social and law enforcement in the context of penitentiaries to counter extremism is to minimize or
eliminate the causes and conditions of its distribution in places of detention, as well as the negative
consequences of the radicalization of prisoners.
The author points out that many aspects of this topic are poorly understood and require further development.
The work is aimed at further comprehensive study of methodological, institutional and legal frameworks to
counter extremism in prisons, as one of the directions of the national security state.
