It should be known the normal parameters of the heart for diagnose congenital heart
disease in the intrauterine period.
The purpose: The aim of this
study is to provide a data of fetal heart development
and estimation of age of fetus. The study was conducted on 20
intact fetuses free from
anatomical abnormalities. They were divided into two groups with 20
-
24 and 24
-
28 weeks
of development. Width, height, circumference, weight were recorded by several technics
(ruler, special compasses etc.).
The objectives and materials:
According to the two groups it has been understood that there is a correlation between
heart weight, height with atria and ventricle size. The correlation between the size of the
heart and the number of the month of fetus is changeable to fetus to fetus.
The results: Posterior ventricle length’s mean is 17.4 mm
and anterior ventricle
length’s mean is 18.4 mm
for the
first
group (20
-
24 weeks of development). Posterior ventricle length’s mean is 22.1 mm
and anterior ventricle length’s mean is 23.1 mm
for the second group (24
-
28 weeks of
development). We can understand there is a correlation between the week of the fetus and
size of its ventricle according to this data. Also further information about ventricles
confirms this hypothesis such as the mean of the ventricle’s width is 18.5 mm
for the first
group and 23.3 mm
for the second group. The standard deviation of the posterior ventricle
length is 1.4, anterior ventricle length is 2.1 and the ventricle’s width is 2.6 for the first
group and the standard deviation of the posterior ventricle length is 1.8, anterior ventricle
length is 1.8 and the ventricle’s width is 3.3.
Conclusion: This article proposes approximately numbers
of the size of the fetal
heart. There is a correlation between the length of the ventricles and period of gestation.
We hopped that this article gives idea about the general numbers of the size of the fetus.
