2. The General Past Tense (Жалпы өткөн чак)
General Past Tense is formed by adding the adjectival past participle (Atoochtuk) suffix [-
GAN], which has forms
–gen /- gon / -kan/ -ken
and copular personal endings for agreement.
Subsequently, the suffixes –kan/-ken are found only after voiceless stops and the fricatives ‘s’
and ‘sh’, -gan/-gen are found after verbal roots ending in vowels, nasals and voiced consonants.
The personal endings are identical to the copular forms.
