| Objectives and methods
A case study of Karatau, a typical mono-city in South Kazakhstan
revealed major problems concerning the organization and management
of local water supply systems. We conducted unstructured interviews
with individual experts (
Vodokanal
staff ) aimed to uncover pressing
issues regarding water resource management and their assessment
of the current implementation status of water management as well
as future perspectives. The data have been mainly gathered in June-
August 2020. The data collection comprises technical and economic
indicators of water supply systems, which are owned by the municipality
and operated by the municipal water supply and sewerage operator
(Vodokanal).
