| Research methodology
The methodological basis of the research is based on the general
scientifi c principles of a systematic approach to research. At the same
time, this work applied theoretical research methods, including the
analysis and synthesis of information provided by periodic business
and scientifi c publications about cryptocurrencies and blockchain
technology. In addition, historical, logical, technical, comparative, and
comparative-legal research methods were used.
Main part
An attractive feature of cryptocurrency payments is that transactions
between entities are made directly, without the participation of
intermediaries, without involving fi nancial institutions. Given this
factor, the popularity of cryptocurrency in the world is increasing more
and more, which is confi rmed by the volume of capitalization of the
cryptocurrency market, which by 2020 reached 200 billion US dollars
(
CoinMarketCap
, 2021).
The history of the development of cryptocurrency as a means of
payment dates back to the appearance of the new bitcoin payment
system on the fi nancial market. As the popularity of the cryptocurrency
grows and its share in the global fi nancial system increases, international
organizations also could not help but pay attention to this challenge, and
some of them gave their own vision and concept of the cryptocurrency.
