Cultivation area. In 2007 the variety entered the State register of breeding
achievements eligible for use in the North Caucasus region.
Breeding method. The variety was bred with the use of single plant selection
from hybrid combination Liman//Line SP 36–88/ST 200–88.
The variety belongs to the mid-ripening group. Growing season lasts 115–120 days.
Botanical and morphological characteristics. Botanical variety:
var. italicа Alef.
Glumes are straw-colored, awnless. The shrub is dense, erect. Plant height is 85–90
cm. Leaves are medium broad, dark-green with an acute leaf angle. Panicle is dense,
erect, 16–18 cm long, containing about 150 spikelets. Panicle sterility is 12–15 %.
Grain and milled rice quality, cooking properties. Grain is medium-sized. Caryopsis
length to breadth ratio (
l/b ): 1.9–2.0. 1000 grain weight: 28–29 g. Husk percentage is
18.0–18.5 %. Milled rice is white, translucency: 97 %; total milled rice: 70–71 %; head
rice: 96–98 %. Milled rice has loose consistency and is recommended for canning
and confectionery industry.
