. The variety is recommended for cultivation in the North Cau-
casus region.
Breeding method
. The variety was bredat the All-Russian Rice Research Insti-
tute with the use of anther culture method from the hybrid population F3 (Pokkali/
Slavyanets// Slavyanets).
Botanical and morphological characteristics.

. Flower glumes are straw-yellow, with small dark spots
and dark colored apicules.The variety belongs to the mid-ripening group.Growing
season lasts 115–119 days.
Plants of Sonata varietyhave strong hollow culms of the average thickness witha
plant height of 95 cm. Shrub is erect, >80°, tillering capacity: 2.0. In case of thinned
stands,the tillering capacity is poor. Panicle iserect, dense, 15–17 cm long,with the
spikelets density of 7.1 pc./cm. Panicle sterility is about 4–5 %. Total number of ker-
nels: 120–140. Pedicel is medium thick, expose from axils for up to 3–4 cm. Leaves
are dark green, narrow, of medium length. Flag leaf is narrow, short, 20–40° off-axis
(of a stalk). Auricles are pale, 0.6–1 cm long, and do not cover the stalk.
