popular and academic books, university essays, e-mail samples, unpublished letters,
and reports from different ages, institutions, and readerships. The success of the BNC as a
representative and balanced general corpus led others to adopt
its basic design principles,
including the American National Corpus,
the Korean National Corpus, the Polish National
Corpus,
and recently, the Turkish National Corpus.
