Today we’ll talk about the role of television in our life and everything which is connected with TV.

First of all I’ll divide you into 3 groups”



  1. Film

  3. News

Television on our life

Television now plays an important role in our life. It is difficult to say if it is good or bad for us. It is clear, that television has advantages and disadvantages.

But are there more advantages than disadvantages? In the first place, television is an entertainment. But it is not only a convenient entertainment. For a family of three, four or five, for example, it is more convenient and less expensive to sit comfortably at home than to go out to find entertainment in other places. They don’t have to pay for expensive seats at the theatre or cinema. They turn on the TV –set and can watch interesting films, concerts, football matches.

But some people think that it’s bad to watch TV. Those who watch TV need do nothing. We are passive when we watch TV. Television shows us many interesting programmers. But again there is a disadvantages here: we watch TV every evening, and it begins to dominate our lives.

Whole generations are growing up addicted to the TV. Food is left uneaten, homework undone and sleep is lost. It is now standard practice for mother to keep the children quiet by putting them in the living-room. With the TV alone: it doesn’t matter what the children will watch-what so long as they are quite.

Very often the programs are bad. Sometimes they show too much violence in films and news programs. There is also too much pop music and ads. Ads on the whole are convenient for grown-ups where they show all kinds of underwear. Television cuts us off from the real world. We get so lazy; we choose to spend a fine day in semi-darkness, glued to our sets, rather than go out into the world itself.

Television is a splendid means of communication, but it prevents us from communicating with each other. We only understand it when we spend a holiday by the sea or in the mountains, far away from civilization, in quite, natural surroundings:

VI. Conclusion. Contrasting positive and negative impact of TV on people. Dividing into two groups. Advantages and disadvantages of watching TV.

I’ll give you placards and you should paint advantages and disadvantages of TV. Then one of the pupils in each group should come to “Author’s chair” and explain what she or he has painted.



VII. Home task

  • Write an essay “My favourite TV Programs” and to learn the vocabulary by heart.
