Introduction:

The cultivation of critical thinking skills is an essential element of a well-rounded
education, and its importance becomes more evident during a child's early educational
years. The elementary school phase is a crucial period in a student's cognitive
development, providing fertile ground for nurturing essential thinking abilities. This
stage forms the basis upon which a child's intellectual prowess is constructed,
influencing their capacity to analyze, evaluate, and reason effectively.
The development of speech skills in elementary school is a foundational and
transformative aspect of a child's education. The ability to communicate effectively
through spoken language is a fundamental skill that plays a pivotal role in shaping a
child's academic success, social interactions, and future prospects. Speech skills
encompass not only the clarity and articulation of words but also the capacity to convey
thoughts, ideas, and emotions coherently and persuasively. This process of speech
formation represents a critical phase in a child's cognitive and emotional development,
as it equips them with the means to engage with the world around them, connect with
peers, and prepare for the challenges of the future.
The instruction of critical thinking in schools has become a prominent subject in
discussions about 21st-century skills. Critical thinking is widely acknowledged as a
vital prerequisite for responsible human engagement and is seen as essential for
individuals to fulfill their societal, professional, and ethical obligations. Acquiring
critical thinking skills enables individuals to make independent decisions and critically
assess beliefs that lack a strong evidential basis. Critical thinking, defined as the ability
to think clearly and rationally, is not an innate trait but a skill that can be developed
and refined. In the context of elementary education, fostering critical thinking skills
has the potential to empower young learners in various aspects of their academic and
personal lives. These skills equip them to approach challenges with confidence,
question assumptions, make informed decisions, and navigate the complexities of an
ever-changing world.
The goal of this study is to explore the development of critical thinking in
elementary school students. Research Objectives: 1) To delve into the theoretical

31
foundations of critical thinking and its relevance in elementary education. 2) To
investigate different methods and practices for enhancing critical thinking skills in
elementary students. 3) To evaluate the effectiveness of the "LTT" curriculum in
improving students' thinking abilities and motivation for learning as a case study. These
objectives will guide the research in gaining a comprehensive understanding of the
development of critical thinking skills in elementary school students and assessing an
instructional program designed to foster these skills.
This research underscores the foundational role of developing critical thinking
skills in elementary school students, emphasizing that these skills are valuable not only
for academic achievement but also for life skills and responsible citizenship.
