The handbook which is composed in accordance with up-to-date programmes for postgraduate training and advanced education of child psychiatrists maintains all principal components of clinical psychiatry of children and adolescents. From modern positions it deals with age peculari- ties of etiology, pathogenesis and clinical aspects of mental disorders in children and adolescents, describes psychopathological syndromes that are predominantly observed in childhood and adolescence, gives in evolutional plan the clinical picture, diagnosis, treatment and prophylaxis of the main forms of mental diseases in childhood. Particular attention is paid to the clinical forms most frequent in the practice of child psychiatrist, such as neuroses, disturbances of personality formation, mental retardation (oligophrenia), borderline mental deficiency. The book for the first time contains description of psychogenic pathocharacterological reactions and pathological formations of personality, borderline forms of residual—organic mental disorders, borderline states of mental deficiency. The monograph also presents the methods of use of psychothropic drugs, psychotherapy and curative pedagogics in mentally ill children and adolescents.
