Упражнения когнитивно-понятийно-репрезентативного типа, направленные на развитие понимания и осмысления понятий, метаязыка и дальнейшего закрепления лексического материала учащимися по изучаемым темам.

На основе прочитанного или прослушанного текста ученик может построить свою монологическую речь и репрезентировать полученную информацию.

Food chemists improve the quality, safety, storage and taste of our food. Food chemists may work for private industry to develop new products or improve processing. They may also work for government agencies such as the Food and Drug Administration to inspect food products and handlers to protect us from contamination or harmful practices. Food chemists test products to supply information used for the nutrition labels or to determine how packaging and storage affects the safety and quality of the food [169].

  1. Make associations with the words “chemistry”, “food chemists”, “products”, “processing”, and “contamination”.

  2. Answer the questions based on the text. Work in pairs and share your answers.

  1. Are food scientists concerned with the inorganic components of food such as its water content, minerals, vitamins and enzymes? Prove your answer.

  2. Explain how food chemists improve the quality, safety, storage and taste of our food.

  3. Tell about function of flavorists working with chemicals to change the taste of food.

  1. Correct the false sentences.

  1. Proteins are complex molecules composed of from 100 to 300 or more amino acids that are chained together and folded into three-dimensional shapes necessary for the structure and function of every cell.

  2. Carbohydrates are sugars and starches, the chemical fuels are not necessary for our cells to function.

  3. Our bodies can synthesize some of the amino acids; however three of them, the essential amino acids, must be taken in as part of our food.
