Tubing are used in the oil and gas industry. Tubing is widely used in the construction of gas and oil wells, for transportation of gaseous and liquid substances, as well as for repair and lowering and lifting operations. A distinctive feature of tubing operation is harsh operating conditions, the presence of permanent mechanical loads and the interaction of aggressive media. The tubing is constantly exposed to erosion and corrosion.


Different types of pipes are used in different design conditions, taking into account technical and industrial parameters. For small and medium size, seamless pipes are more popular, while welded pipes are more economical for larger diameters. Based on the manufacturing method of pipes, pipes are mainly divided into two categories seamless and welded. Welded pipes are further classified based on the welding method. There are two methods of welding pipes: the first is with filler metal and the second is without filler metal. The submerged arc welding process is filler metal welding, whereas ERW / EFW and HFW are not filler metal welding methods for pipe welding. SAW pipes are further classified as straight and spiral welded pipes. Straight seam pipes are also known as L-SAW or long seam SAW pipes. The medium-diameter straight SAW pipe has a single seam and the large-diameter pipe has a double-welded seam.

Since tubing has different thicknesses, it is used in different industries and has different applications.


Types of tubing





  • Smooth tubing in accordance with GOST 633-80

  • Tubing with upset ends API 5ST

  • Smooth tubing string smooth according to GOST 633-80

  • Smooth tubing with sealing unit

  • Smooth tubing with high leak tightness

  • High plasticity tubing

  • Tubing with high cold resistance

  • TU 14-3-1282-84

  • Smooth tubing

  • Smooth tubing with high leak-tightness

A version tubing is made of polymers. The tubing A pipes can be made with increased plasticity. The advantages of tubing include increased cold resistance. The tubing is also extremely cold-resistant. Especially for corrosive environments, tubing may be made corrosion-resistant.




Tubing sizes

Tubing is available in various sizes from 6 to 10.5m. On request, tubing can be up to 11.5 m long. Grade A tubing is supplied in lengths of 9.5-10.5 m. The geometry dimensions of tubing are in accordance with GOST 633-80. The weight of tubing as per GOST 633-80. Allowable deviations of tubing dimensions are insignificant, it makes them practical.

In the connection of pipes with a triangular thread (Fig. 2, a), a tapered thread of 1:16 with a profile angle of 60° is used. The strength of the connection is up to 70% of the strength of the pipe body. The connection is not tight enough due to design imperfections. Calculated values of limiting pressures are 2/3 of practical ones.

Pipes of NKM type (Fig. 2, b) are characterized by equal strength of threaded joint with pipe body and high hermeticity. Tightness is ensured by conical and mechanical metal-to-metal seals. Increased thread pitch allows speeding up the connection assembly by 2.5 times in comparison with triangular threads.
