discourse. On the one hand, this requirement seems quite reasonable.
On the other hand, facts of the language do not meet it. Different
terminological systems abound in polysemantic terms. The adequacy of
their translation is wholly dependent on the context. In the terminology of
construction, the term
building
may denote
a structure made of a strong
material such as stone or wood that has a roof and walls
(“
здание‖,
―строение
”) and, at the same time,
the process of building houses,
factories, office buildings
(“
строительство
”).
Another controversial problem of terminology concerns synonyms. As
far as some linguists are concerned, terms should not have synonyms
because, consequently, scientists and other specialists would name the
same objects and phenomena in their field by different terms and it
would not be possible to come to any agreement. Nevertheless, there
are many terms in different spheres, which do possess synonyms. For
