1, if an individual supports a ban on smoking in all public
places, t. e. chose the answer «everywhere», 0 - if not.
In order to t assess what factors infl uence the likelihood of a smoking
ban being supported in a public place, it is necessary to evaluate
the probability choice model. As stated above, a person’s attitude
towards prohibitions is likely to depend on whether they smoke or
not. However, if the
smokes
variable is included as an explanation, the
fact that it may be endogenous must be taken into account. To account
for the endogenousness of the smokes variable, we will consider
systems of binary equations with dependent variables (Y
k
,
smokes
),
k
=1,...,7:
X
is a set of explanatory factors, random errors, have a joint normal
distribution:
It is further necessary to mark that in higher education the
frequent visitors are students (
student
); in the workplace - employed
individuals (
have_work
); in sports facilities - individuals engaged in
sports (
sportsman
); for bars and restaurants the
nonvisitor
variable is
included, that singles out those who do not attend such institutions
at all. As smokers and non-smokers «activevisitors» may have
diametrically diff erent opinions about prohibitions on smoking, cross-
variables were also introduced that characterize smokers «active
visitors»:
studentXsmokes, have_workXsmokes, nonvisitorXsmokes
and sportsmanXsmokes
.
