In the body, trace elements are found mainly in the form of coordination compounds, which, 
as a rule, have high biological digestibility, therapeutic efficacy and safety. Copper is one of the 
vital trace elements. It activates the synthesis of hemoglobin, is involved in the synthesis of protein 
and skin pigment. The main biochemical function of copper in the body is participation in 
enzymatic reactions as an activator or as part of copper-containing enzymes. 
On the basis of what was written above, we carried out the synthesis of a coordination 
compound of copper (II) with ligands with low toxicity and high biological activity - glutaric acid 
(GLA) and vitamin B
5
(GPTT) acids. 
Quantitative determination of the metal was carried out by the complexometric method, 
nitrogen was determined by the Dumas micromethod, and the water content was determined 
gravimetrically. Thermal analysis of the complex was carried out on a NETZSCH STA-409 PG 
thermal analyzer in the temperature range of 400 °C. IR spectra were taken on a Cary 630 IR-
Fourier spectrophotometer in the range 400-4000 cm
-1
(Ftir Agilent Technologies, USA). 
Synthesis of [Cu(GLА-2H)(GPTT)] 2H
2
O (where “-H” denotes the deprotonated ligand). An 
aqueous solution of Na
2
SO
4
was added to an aqueous solution of the calcium salt of 
homopantothenic acid. The mixture was stirred for 2 hours. This formed a precipitate of CaSO
4

which was filtered off. To the resulting mother liquor with stirring was added dropwise aqueous 
solutions of GLA, zinc nitrate salt. The resulting clear solution was evaporated to 0.25 volume and 
precipitated with acetone. The precipitate formed was separated, washed with acetone and ether. 
X-rays were taken to establish the purity and individuality of the resulting complex. X-ray 
diffraction patterns of the ligands differ sharply from the current-synthesized complex, which 
confirms the individuality and purity. The composition of the isolated compound was established by 
elemental analysis, and some physicochemical properties were also studied. To establish the 
method of coordination of glutaric and homopantothenic acids, as well as, to a certain extent, the 
structure of the synthesized complex compound, IR spectroscopic and derivatographic studies were 
carried out. It has been established that glutaric acid and vitamin B
5
are coordinated to the metal 
bidentately in the deprotonated form.
