Conclusion
Anemia is a significant finding among diabetic mellitus type 2 patients. When
evaluating
the erythrocyte and hemoglobin levels at admission and discharge, the majority of patients are
diagnosed as anemic.
But still, there has been an increment in erythrocyte level by 10.9% at discharge, which is
a positive outcome of clinical treatment. Out of 24 patients who were diagnosed as mild anemic,
17 were still under the mild anemic stage at discharge but all of their
hemoglobin levels have
reached higher value at the end of clinical treatment, compared to admission which is a positive
effect of surgical treatment.
The absence of severe anemic patients at discharge and the progression of 4 patients from
moderate anemic stage to mild anemic stage at discharge illustrate the positive dynamic effect of
treatment. Diabetic mellitus predisposes to many infections and complications. ESR evaluated the
inflammatory processes and local complications induced by peripheral circulation disorders. Our
study has shown a significant fall in ESR at discharge when compared to admission, this drastic
fall is 32.6%, showing suppression of inflammatory process and the efficiency of surgical
treatment. WBC level plays a major role in predicting the prognosis and complications of diabetic
mellitus.
The mean values of WBC at admission and discharge are 16.69±0.34 10*9g/L and
9.25±0.25 10*9g/ L respectively. The dramatic fall in WBC count by 44.5% and the 6.3% decrease
in the level of neutrophils at discharge compared to admission reflects the success of the treatment.
Between the time frame of admission and discharge, persistent elevation of thrombocyte level is
seen in our study, therefore we can’t use this parameter to evaluate the prognosis of the efficiency
of surgical treatment.
