STARCH BIOPOLYMER USES FOR A SUSTAINABLE MODERN-э

Starch is a promising polysaccharide derived from abundant renewable sources that can be
formulated as a replacement raw material for fossil fuel-based plastics or as an agricultural additive.
Starch's unique environmental safety
measures include absorbency, biodegradability,
biocompatibility, and non-toxicity.
Starches can be extracted from a variety of edible plant sources, including potatoes (Solanum
tuberosum), cassava (Manihot esculenta), corn (Zea mays), rice (Oryza sativa), wheat (Triticum
aestivum), barley (Hordeum vulgare), and others. Starch can be mulched with the following organic
materials:
cut grass, straw, humus, peat, sawdust.
Mulching designed from various materials would provide soil coverage to prevent the
hindrance caused by the growth of weed species and regulate soil temperature. Mulching was also
used in traditional agricultural practices, and biodegradable materials
from natural sources were
used before using plastic films. The following materials were used in conventional agriculture:
straw, hay, cardboard, gravel, and non-hazardous organic wastes.
The scope of applicability and property improvements of starch-based agricultural solutions
were covered in this review. Many studies and advances have been sparked by the biodegradable
polymers that agriculture will require in the future and their role in promoting global sustainability.
A circular economy and sustainable green plastics in agriculture might both benefit from starch-
based plastics.
