Abstract.
This article discusses an effective methodology for teaching the tasks of in-
creasing natural science literacy based on the development of functional literacy of
students in the learning process in a secondary school. In order to increase students’
interest in learning the intricacies of chemistry within the sciences, so that they un-
derstand that the knowledge gained is necessary in life, a short lesson plan shows the
planning of tasks aimed at functional literacy. Forming a deep interest in the world of
substances and chemical reactions, phenomena, The applied contextual tasks allow
full implementation of interdisciplinary positions based on educational goals, scientif-
ic in nature and practically important. In order for the learner to perform the task effec-
tively, the task must be based on their knowledge or life experience. Therefore, the giv-
en material is available, its content is compiled within the framework of the curriculum
and included in the short-term lesson plan. Tasks based on functional literacy in the
short–term lesson plan develop students’ ability to observe and search, teach them to
acquire knowledge on their own, improve it, and apply the acquired knowledge in life.
The ability to learn and use knowledge increases due to recognition of natural scienc-
es, understanding of natural phenomena and formulation of conclusions based on
scientific data related to scientific problems. Functional literacy of the student increas-
es, reflective citizens help to make decisions, non–standard and effective solutions are
found.
