In the given fragment, V.Stanevich's translation most fully reflects the semantic connotation of the verb "to write", preserving the author's intention. In Chapter 11 there is also an indication of the genre affiliation of the work: "A new chapter in a novel is something like a new scene in a play..." (новая глава в романе это что-то похожее на новую сцену в пьесе). In this fragment both translations accurately convey the original content:
