delivers water to the pump station of the III lift through a pipelines with
a diameter of ø500 mm and a length of 12 km and, then, to the nearby
city. To improve the local freshwater supply of Karatau, this part of
obsolete pipeline was replaced by new PVC pipes in 2015.
The water intake “Koktal” with a yield of 190 l/sec consists of
2 wells. The water coming from Koktal is stored in cisterns. Then
from this cisterns, water gets pumped into 500 km steel pipeline with
the diameter of ø 32 mm. Water is drawn through the chlorination
system and distributed in private sector. According to an expert
interview with Mr. Sergienko Viktor, a lead engineer at ‘‘Vodakanal’’
in Karatau, Koktal water intake was put into operation in 1963, to
collect water. Currently, therefore, 29 km of Koktal pipeline out of
32 km is in extreme deterioration. Mineralization of water can reach
0.2-0.5 g/l.
The total length of waste disposal pipeline is 72.5 km – 15 km of
street collectors and 57.5 km of neighborhood network. More than
5 years ago, the design and construction documents for the sewage
treatment plants were developed, however, the project has returned
from the expert organization for processing.
Currently water companies operating in mono-cities face diffi
culties
in providing uninterrupted services due to high wear of pipelines. Figure
1 shows the actual state of the city’s water supply network.
