In English the combination of a noun and a participle is more
common than in the Russian language. E. g.: the combinations like

saying (urging, informing,
etc.) are
mostly rendered in Russian as:

и т. п.).
Task 13. Analyze the sentences and translate them into Russian.
1. Physics is a broad science that deals primarily with phenomena
involving the transformation of matter and energy.
2. The stability of the compound being formed must be considered.
3. Hydrogen is the lightest substance known.
4. Different forms of magnetic circuits can be employed, depending
on the material used, results desired, cost and other factors.
5. Almost every new material studied has to be given special
consideration and often investigated by a special method.
6. Words have the common property of changing their meaning
with use, and the terms used are no exception.
7. It is hoped that the theoretical background given will be
adequate for the purposes of those readers for whom the book was
written.
8. The type of complex reaction having been the object of numerous
investigations will be discussed in more than usual detail as it illustrates
a number of methods of handling complex reactions that may be applied
to other cases.
9. It is to be emphasized at the outset that no equation of any sort
may be written unless the formulae for all substances reacting and the
products formed are known.
10. The theoretical treatment given is based entirely upon the
methods of statistical mechanics, since this seems to be the only rational
procedure.
11. The Chinese written characters, known to have been in use for
the past three thousand years, were originally rude pictures, as of men,
birds, horses, dogs, houses etc., and it is still possible to trace in the
modified forms of these characters more or less striking resemblances
to the object intended.
