Currently, studies of composite materials on the basis of natural polymers are particular
increasing the interest of scientists. Due to valuable properties such as solubility in water, non-
toxicity, compatibility and tendency to complexation of natural polymers are used for medicine as
carriers of medicinal substances.
In this work, the possibility of obtaining composite materials on the basis of natural
polysaccharides – sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (NaCMC) and gelatin with the addition of
biologically active complex-alchidine was studied. The choice of NaCMC is also due to a number
of valuable properties: high swelling ability, indifference to other raw materials, non-toxicity,
sorption ability, availability and biodegradability.
For this purpose, different gel concentrations were obtained, such as 5 %, 7 %, 10 % with and
without addition of glycerin. The gels were obtained at different temperatures like 25 °C, 50 °C, 70
°C, 90 °C with a constant agitator method while maintaining a constant temperature in the
thermostat. For the swelling process, gels with concentrations of 7 % were used, because of good
gel forming properties. The swelling of the gels was studied in the physical solution, water, and pH
(1; 3; 5; 7; 9) solutions. Swelling of the composite gels was investigated at 24 and 48 hours in the
temperature of 70 °C and 25 °C. In the results, composite material without addition of glycerin
showed the smallest degree of swelling in the 70 °C, and in the 25 °C degrees, the gel without
addition of glycerin was the highest.
In order to obtain of composite materials and control their properties, it is important to know
the laws of interaction of components with each other. The results of studies using equilibrium
swelling methods have shown that the degree of swelling depends on the temperature of the
composites. After that, it was found that the most optimal temperature for gel was 50 °C degrees.
Further, sorption, desorption, viscosity and other mechanical properties were studied at 50 °C
degrees of composite material with concentration of 7 % without and with addition of glycerin.
